Playground Planning

International Play Equipment Manufacturers Association - IPEMA represents and promotes an open market for manufacturers of playground equipment and surfacing. IPEMA's objectives are to represent and serve all manufacturers of the playground equipment industry, provide members with timely, in-depth information on key economic and governmental issues affecting the industry and to promote relationships with other related organizations to enhance the strength of the marketplace.

National Program for Playground Safety - The NPPS promotes safety in playground design and operation to reduce the number of injuries suffered on play equipment every year in the U.S.

Safety and Accessibility

The Consumer Products Safety Commission - The CPSC regulates playground safety. Their website has a playground safety checklist, and a resources section just for kids. On the CPSC home page search for "Public Playground Safety Handbook." This directs you to a pdf download of the CPSC publication.

American's with Disabilities Act - The ADA has changed the way playgrounds must be built. Accessibility is now an important factor to consider, and the ADA website is the first place to go to understand today's requirements.

American Society for Testing and Materials - ASTM promotes public health and safety, and the overall quality of life, contributes to the reliability of materials, products, systems and services, and facilitates national, regional, and international commerce.

Community Built Association - The CBA is a non-profit organization that helps local organizations find the help they need in their own community to build quality structures that enhance quality of life and community pride.

National Playground Contractors Association - The NPCA supports playground safety programs, guidelines, and standards that promote playground safety by assisting the public in identifying the need for a professional playground installation. It is a nationwide partnership formed to contribute to the advancement of the playground building industry by promoting playground installation as a legitimate contracting profession within the playground industry.

Environmental Resources

Global Releaf - Global ReLeaf is American Forests' education and action program that helps individuals, organizations, agencies, and corporations improve the local and global environment by planting and caring for trees. By the end of 2006, American Forests has planted 25 million trees in more than 500 projects across the United States and internationally. It is our goal at American Forests to continue to plant millions of trees in new Global ReLeaf projects across the country and the globe.
